Limited 180gm heavyweight translucent gold vinyl LP pressing. Includes a print of the album artwork, hand signed by Jaime Harding. Marion formed in Manchester in 1994, releasing their debut single on Rough Trade. Signed to London Records, the band found themselves bundled in with the 'Britpop' scene, and made their national TV debut by performing 'Sleep' on Channel 4's cult TV show 'The Word' in February 1995. The band gigged throughout 1995, building up a fan base, and supported Morrissey on his 'Boxers' tour. This World And Body was released in February 1996 and entered the top ten of the UK album chart.
Do you know Marion???? The only Brit band that has a voice that reminds me of the finer points of David Bowie's singing style crossed with an actual voice that somehow reminds me of Robert Plant ... I have known many many fans of 90s brit bands - Auteurs, Suede, Elastica, Gene, Echobelly but it seems that Marion always were the lesser popular one of all those groups. Not quite sure why.. but if you are unfamiliar with this group, you should check out their music and this new reissue from Edsel just pleads the case. The songs combine personal storytelling and downbeat lyrics with the occasional melody to counter the tone..Harding's very personal delivery has a way of making every song fresh. The british press made a lot of comparisons to Joy Division early on and I don't see that sound at all. Perhaps Marion were influenced slightly by them but I hear no tribute in their sound. Probably the closest in their contemporaries were Suede, but perhaps a bit more straightforward rock n roll than suede and less glitter stomp. No matter, Marion has a voice in their own distinctive right and Edsel has made a stunning release of their most notable period. The first album, b-sides and a disc of sessions too that is not to be scoffed at.
