One of the most common yet underrecognized autoimmune and rheumatological disorders. Sjögren's (pronounced SHOW-grens) syndrome, or SjS, affects more people than rheumatoid arthritis and lupus combined. Difficult to diagnose, SjS is characterized by symptoms that shift almost daily, usually beginning with vague discomforts such as dry eyes and dry mouth, then advancing to more severe concerns such as joint pain and swollen glands. A Body Out of Balance provides a comprehensive guide to the wide array of symptoms, traditional and complementary treatments, and invaluable coping methods, so patients may devise a personal treatment plan. Co written by a woman living with the disease and by a physician who has treated countless SjS patients, this indispensable resource will enhance awareness and demystify this often-misunderstood disorder.
Easy to understand including that it shows overlapping autoimmune conditions. A book that I highly recommend which you can bring to your doctor. People at the hospital weren't receptacle and they kept 1 of these books. I had 2 so I could bring it to another person. I was shocked by the ignorance of ER techs, different nurses, & doctors in psychiatry who were so Ignorant. People who shouldn't even be in psychiatry let alone the medical field. Medical Always supersedes psychiatry but there are so many ignorant people misusing the DMS when it's Only a checklist & for decades people have misdiagnosed people that have neurological issues. This has harmed millions of people when there are 45 different symptoms and I have had this condition since childhood. Nobody including dentists, eye doctors, primary doctors, orthopedic people & psychiatrists would acknowledge this refusing to look up my medical conditions trying to put me on an anxiety medication when I have xerostomia. They wouldn't give me electrolytes, listen to me when I explained that I had a neck injury & I Needed arthritis medication. Being given the Wrong medications for decades when they could have tested me and checked my thyroid which was another issue. I also had problems with Pronouncing words even as a kid. My father had this condition and I explained that I was severely Deficient in B1, and other vitamins. I spent a lot of money Buying different supplements and figure Exactly what I needed. This helped me to remember things & I was ignored by different Psychiatrists who chose to remain ignorant just like different doctors, nurses. People who wouldn't even take the time to read or look up information. Numerous primary doctors putting me on the Wrong Medications including giving me Diuretics which made my body very sick when I had Raynaud's disease. Drugs like oxybutynin (removed from the market). Ignorance among urologists is another problem and I should have immediately stopped this drug when I exhibited severe reactions within 1 day. Being told to take Told to take itit. I Finally stopped. The damage to my teeth including dentists who didn't believe me when I know my body. I explained I didn't care care about the X-Ray when I explained my jaw & teeth hurt. Teeth that started breaking, fillings falling out. Different dentists trying to take advantage when I wasn't going to listen to any dentist recommending that I have a root canal on a back molar that only 1/4 of tooth remaining which had to be extracted. This book explains these things when some people have different symptoms. I had eye problems, gritty teeth which started in childhood due to Sjogren's. Don't ever give up and find a doctor who listens because I had so many specialists who were clueless. Doctors who should have understood that I suffered a brain injury even at age 19 by a dental surgeon giving me ether gas when I was highly allergic and I was so sick for 2 weeks & they thought I died causing me a brain injury. Image being ignored due to a narcissistic doctor & I have unfortunately met many in every field including different people who work in doctors offices. Find a doctor that has nice, helpful staff because this is extremely important & who wants to deal with negative people when you're sick. Meeting many nurses including MHW who appeared clueless.
