So she takes things into her own hands. ⁣⁣This was a fun, well researched, and compulsively readable Regency era mystery. I love Lily and her no nonsense, practical, empowered sense of self, yet with a touching vulnerability just beneath the surface. She’s both thrilled and terrified by her own actions but it’s her belief in justice and equality that keeps her in pursuit of a murderer. ⁣⁣The secondary characters in this are all well drawn and add to the believably authentic feel of this Regency era London created by the author. I was especially compelled by and interested in the two mixed-race characters seamlessly inserted into this upper echelon of London society and appreciated the Author’s Note that summarized the research she did on people of color in England at that time. ⁣And that Captain Jack Hartley gives good banter and protective friendship. ? *swoon*⁣This book just worked for me on all levels and I’m excited to see there will be a second Lily Adler mystery soon.
