A legislative intern with secrets that could unravel the governing elite vanishes into the night in Albany, New York. Seven years later, another young woman disappears in a suburb of the nation's Capital. The only connection between both missing women is Ryan McNeil, the chief of staff to a rising congressman.Under suspicion, Ryan must now prove his innocence in these women's abductions, but in the ruthless world of politics-where the line between crime and lawful authority blurs-there is no one he can trust. With his life at stake, Ryan confronts the elaborate lies of his lover, his wife, and his political mentor to uncover the identities of a murderer and manipulator. While Ryan tries desperately to maintain his relationship with his wife and stepdaughter, the desires and deceits of those around him undermine his family and also the integrity of government. Innocent of murder, but implicated in this political world of deception, Ryan discovers the only truth is power."... the pace of the story is consistently propulsive throughout, which is sure to maintain readers' interest."-Kirkus Reviews****** 2022 AWARD WINNER FOR POLITICAL THRILLER ****** AMERICAN FICTION AWARDS****** 2022 AWARD WINNER FOR FICTION- MYSTERY ****** PENCRAFT BOOK AWARD****** 2022 Finalist Mystery/Suspense ****** American Fiction Awards****** 2022 Finalist Political Thriller ****** National Indie Excellence Award ****** 2022 Finalist Political Thriller ****** International Book Award, Readers' Favorite****** 2022 Finalist Political Thriller ****** BestThrillers.com****** 2022 Finalist for First Novel ****** IAN Book of the Year Award****** 2023 Quarterfinalist ****** ScreenCraft Cinematic Book Competition****** 2023 Finalist ****** The Eric Hoffer Award

I grabbed this book because of the reviews that called it a page-turner and binge-worthy, and was happy to see that they were accurate. Starting with the first page, you'll see why you won't want to put it down. Ryan's government job puts him in direct contact with people in powerful positions, but when he ends up the only similar variable in a string of murders, he has to defend himself. But since he's having an affair and his hands aren't completely white as it is, it's not as easy to prove his innocence. You can tell the author knows the government and the settings in DC and Albany well, and the characters are built so that the reader gets into their lives.
