Nonetheless, there's a good reason this is such a popular book and it is worth getting the latest edition. (Unlike say math, there have been so many new startling empirical results given the latest technological innovations and methedological techniques that seem to emerge almost exponentially every few months, that having the latest edition in this field can make a huge difference. Things are somewhat different for sub-fields such as Bacteriology and Virology which are also rapidly changing, but these are sub-areas within Microbiology as a whole so that's why there are overall, ,more startling changes and an up=to-date textbook is important like this one).
