This is a long explanation but bear with me....I have read the other reviews, and I DO "get" the negative critiques. However, honestly folks, this book is AMAZING and EXCELLENT for anyone wanting to do ANY BEHAVIOR CHANGE, not just fitness. And I am NOT AFFILIATED with this author, book, bodybuilding.com or other company. I read this book FOR ME!.......Now, ABOUT THIS BOOK FIRST......This book is not just about fitness and nutrition advice, (although that piece is GREAT)....and is NOT just about changing your body....it IS ABOUT CHANGING your MIND (your thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, self-talk, etc.), your BEHAVIOR, your RELATIONSHIPS, your ENVIRONMENT, and your LIFE!!!!!!..........."Fitness" is what is selling the book....but the "JUICE" of the book is the INSIGHT and KNOWLEDGE you will attain from reading about BEING HUMAN and understanding HUMAN BEHAVIOR...........Folks, I am going to be bluntly honest.......you can get fitness and nutrition advice anywhere, even using Google; you do not need this book for that. While his fitness/nutrition advice is stellar, this book is more of a true BEHAVIOR CHANGE BOOK. If you want advice to PROPEL you to BECOME whatever it is you want to BECOME in life, this is a MUST READ!.......My personal story........I first discovered this book at the gym....one of the trainers got it and left it out for the members of the club to flip through while they were there......and I did.....and I IMMEDIATELY WENT HOME AND PURCHASED IT.......I read it WORD-FOR-WORD screaming YES!!! and underlining things, and reminding MYSELF of things, and then immediately SHARING what I read with others (my clients, students, fellow coaches, educators, etc.) Just so you know even more of why this is SPECIAL.....I am already trained in this field.....I TEACH IT!!!....my professional history - I have been in the Health, Fitness, and Wellness field for 20 years. I have a Masters Degree and Certifications in the field. I have worked as a personal trainer, fitness instructor, yoga teacher, health educator, and wellness coach.....and personally, I have been an athlete and newly, a bodybuilder for figure and fit-body type training. FROM MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, I can tell you that this book is EXCELLENT! I have NEVER read another book that breaks down HEALTH BEHAVIOR CHANGE science to lay-man's terms so easily, and applies them to a specific behavior (in this book, that behavior is fitness; but it doesnt have to be).......................Now, I do AGREE that Kris (the author) plugs his own online social networking community, BodySpace, incessantly (and yes, annoyingly so)......BUT BUT BUT....if you are not interested in HIS SOCIAL NETWORK then just read over that. I personally have logged on to bodybuilding.com and seen what it is, and I personally DO NOT LIKE it for ME.....and choose NOT TO USE IT.....BUT that being said, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book, and do not care that he advertises his own network...........For me, the MESSAGE that is the KEY TO SUCCESS is not to use "his" network (although plugged)....it is the power you have using YOUR INTER-PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS, and SOCIAL NETWORKS (in-person or online)..........If you don't like his network, then just find or create your own!!!.............To end my review here, this book is EXCELLENT. And I mean the WORDS (text, body, "guts" of the book....not just the fitness workout plan itself).......I will be giving it to other people to read......both those that WORK IN THIS FIELD, and my clients.......And I will advise to you, if you get this book, do NOT just jump to the fitness and nutrition advice. READ THE BOOK FIRST.....read the first HALF of the BOOK that gives you the INFORMATION you need to be successful. It is LONG but TOTALLY WORTH IT.....give yourself a WEEK (or 2 if you need) TO READ FIRST, before you "start" his program. (And know that you WILL BE APPLYING his advice for the rest of your life, not just those 2 weeks of reading!).......And don't just skim it......word-for-word folks. And, I would personally recommend that you start writing your own journal to write your thoughts for how everything applies to YOUR LIFE.........Kris is a GIFTED WRITER, EDUCATOR and inspired me deeply. I would recommend him (this book or to hear him speak on his teachings) to anyone!
