Product Description

The John S. Williams plantation in Georgia was operated largely with the labor of slaves—and this was in 1921, 56 years after the Civil War. Williams was not alone in using “peons,” but his reaction to a federal investigation was almost unbelievable: he decided to destroy the evidence. Enlisting the aid of his trusted black farm boss, Clyde Manning, he began methodically killing his slaves. As this true story unfolds, each detail seems more shocking, and surprises continue in the aftermath, with a sensational trial galvanizing the nation and marking a turning point in the treatment of black Americans.

The only reason I got this book is because I had never heard of anything like this before. Not only is this a true story it is such a page turner! To think something this evil could have happened in 1921 is unbelievleable. I was born in 1959 and saw a few people thinking blacks should live on the other side of the tracks, and that is the way my father stated it.This story is about what a human has to overcome to live in a hated world. A world of money and a world of not understanding.I have always treated people as I like to be treated, this book takes you back to the world where if you are black or poor or in this book both you are thrown into slavery where then you are killed. One of the best books I have ever read.
