While a retired detective on vacation is standing in front of a popular breakfast place in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, he encounters a weasel of a man who is only there because one of his neighbors is paying for his vacation. The detective makes a mistake of telling the man what he used to do for a living, and the man asks the detective if he goes home and finds a body will the detective come and solve the murder at no cost to him. The detective tells him he will do it only if the body is found on the front porch. When the freeloader goes home and finds a body on his front porch, he calls the detective, who has just returned home from his vacation himself. The entry in the Dekker Cozy Mystery series fits in with the others in the series, which means it is a whodunit with lots of humor and twists and turns.
Let me begin by saying that this is simply the best book I have ever read in my whole entire life! (Let me qualify this statement by noting that I'm 48 years old, have been an avid reader for the better part of my life, and for the past five or so years I have been averaging reading between 200 and 300 complete books a year.) Having read many (and owning all) of amazingly gifted author STEVE DEMAREE's superb and genuinely engrossing books, I had extremely high expectations for this new release, and it not only met everyone of them, it more than exceeded them all. With a naturally heartwarming conversational writing style, combined with an absolutely hilarious sense of humor, beloved and endearing characters both old and new, and gripping and suspenseful plot twists throughout, "A Body on the Porch" is, without a doubt, STEVE DEMAREE at his absolute undeniable best. If you love Cy Dekker and Lou Murdock – or even if you've never met them before – then this 10th installment in STEVE DEMAREE's hugely popular Dekker cozy mystery series is an absolute "must buy" and "must read".
