Beleduc Your Body - Boy 5-Layer Wooden Puzzle
age-appropriate design

I thought this may be a bit beyond my two year old when I purchased it. However, we've only had it for three days and he can now put it together completely by himself. At first I had to separate the pieces for each layer for him, but after using it a lot the past two days (it's a hit!) he can now do the entire puzzle by himself.Very nice construction, although the pieces are thinner than I thought they would be (probably necessary since there are basically 4 puzzles in one - the fifth layer is just painted onto the bottom of the puzzle). Also, from the description on Amazon I wasn't clear that each layer was actually a puzzle, or if it was just one piece per layer. I was happy to find out when I received the puzzle that there are several pieces to each layer (7 pieces per layer to be exact). My son does not yet understand what he's looking at when he sees the layers, but I think this toy will be a favorite for years to come and its educational value is very high.We HIGHLY recommend this toy...and don't underestimate your toddler - he or she can probably do this puzzle and hopefully will be as entertained with this toy as my son. This puzzle is amazing. Great quality! My 4 year old LOVES it and it is one of his favorite toys he got for Christmas this year! He was immediately drawn to it and has played with it multiple times so far. He is fascinated by getting to see the inner parts of his body. However my husband pointed out an interesting point. It goes from surface layer (clothes) to deeper and deeper levels (skin, muscle, internal organs and skeleton) However, the skeleton (rib cage for example) protects the internal organs shown. So technically, that should have been the 4th layer and the organ systems printed on the bottom layer. So those 2 layers should be reversed, if they are going from surface layers to deepest layers... Made me think a bit. Just wanted to point that out. Its a 5 star product to me, either way! The only thing I was disappointed about, was that it was not made in America. (made in china) I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this is. Pieces fit well, it is the perfect size, not too big, not too small.. It is much nicer than expected, very glad I chose this.I just want to echo what everyone else has said. This is a great puzzle. When I saw the preview picture, I imagined it was miniature size, but it's about as tall as a piece of paper. This puzzle is a great way to teach questioning preschoolers about the body - the corresponding girl puzzle can be used with it to teach the basic difference between girls and boys (if asked) and everything else helps reinforce how similar we are. There are only two things that I don't like about the puzzle:1. It is only available as a pale skinned caucasian.2. The boy and girl puzzles are ALMOST the same size, but not truly interchangeable. This makes it very hard if your child wants to work on both puzzles side by side, because it will look like the arm piece would fit in either puzzle, but actually it is will only fit flush on one of them. Besides being annoying, this also takes away from the message that both boys and girls have mostly similar body parts (same kind of lungs, same skull, etc).I love these Hape puzzles and often give them as gifts for kids in the 3-5 year range (including my own daughter), because they're fun and educational. My daughter (5) loves her body puzzle, and it's given her a rudimentary appreciation of internal anatomy. I am docking a star because there are so many pieces and no way to contain them; a box or a cover would be nice. I guess you could put it down in a ziplock bag or something, but a little plastic cover that latched on top would be amazing! My toddlers love this puzzle! They spend lots of time thinking about the different levels of organization of their bodies. I have both a boy and a girl puzzle and they enjoy looking at both and learning more about the similarities of all human bodies as well as the few differences. A great learning tool for toddlers. My 2 and 4 year old love this puzzle! The 4 year old can do it independently, and the 2 year old can do it with a bit of help. It really helps that the layers are all different sizes, so they can't put the organ layer in before the bones, for ex. The one annoying thing I've found is that the pieces between this one and the other one we have (the girl version) are not entirely interchangeable, so sometimes if they're doing both puzzles together it takes a few tries to figure out which arm is for which puzzle. It's kind of an inherent issue with all puzzles though--no two are going to fit exactly the same--so, not a problem, just a warning in case you get two!The layers are in wrong order, in the puzzle the organs come before the skeletal system but the skeletal system actually protects the organs and should come before the organ layer. FYI kind of difficult to talk about function when they messed that upWas as nice as I was hoping it would be. My just turned 3 yr old nephew is enthralled with this puzzle. He has recently been potty trained so pointing out how food gets from here to there was interesting and current for him but this will be a learning puzzle for a good amount of time, too, as he has to pay attention to putting the organs in before the muscles and the skin. He is really learning what layers are and how each layer has its place and function. Would be a wonderful, useful, educational and enjoyable gift for any young child. Worth every penny and then some.
