As the title suggests, this is not just another fad-oriented, church growth book representing one man's opinion, but a work focused on defining what the Bible actually says on the matter. This book works through all the major issues and questions about the church, making great effort to faithfully represent and synthesize the Biblical passages on the subject. McManis' work is thorough and scholarly, yet easily readable for all audiences. Each chapter will equip the reader to better understand God's definition of the church, His intention in establishing her, as well as her ordinances and priorities. If that all sounds very theological, don't worry -- it is never a dry read! McManis' goal is clearly not to just inform the reader, but to have them understand their individual role God has called them to fulfill in their local body. For that reason, this book is essential reading for all Christians, especially those who are not familiar with what the Bible teaches about ecclesiology, or why it even matters.
