Said to be the closes to the original design, but hey could have put some cushioning on the inside of the pads. These are rough for any exercise that uses it around the ankles or wrists. The resistance is stiff, but even lighter framed ans shorter students like the action. The construction is very basic. Mine is used in a studio as well as personally, and people with tighter or wider shoulders really appreciate the extra 2 inches in diameter over all the other commercially produced circles. I mean all of them- this was the only one I could find that was not 14" or less in diameter. Pilates equipment manufacturing seems to be the wild west- there isn't a lot of standardization and what is called 'approved' or 'authentic' seems to beg definition. Balance Body is a very conscientious seller, they followed up after a wrong item was sent and were easy to contact and get answers from. I would definitely but from them again
