The poster who thinks this is not maple flame veneer is probably not familiar with the old way of cutting veneer, which is what they are probably doing. Nowadays, the veneer is carefully sliced off the log like taking a skin cut off a rotating log, so they can cut down to the core and use almost all the log.Back decades ago, (and what the Asians are probably still doing), they used to cut the log in half lengthwise, then clamp one half of the log down, flat side of one half center being on the table. They will take flat cuts until they reach the clamps, which wastes about 1" of the center of the log. I used to buy this leftover lumber from a mill in Virginia. This is flat cut veneer from that style of cutting, and is actually maple flame veneer, cut the old way. Fine with me. I find it beautiful and interesting, and may just put a transparent finish on it.Otherwise, the body is your typical install from the F holes electronics, and if you know what you are doing, a body like this for this price is a real bargain. Just make sure you know how to assemble a semi-hollow body.
